Until We Meet Again…

Standard

This week has been a hard one for my husband and I. The reason that I say both of us is because this time it does not include just me. On Saturday night Brian and I came down to see his family. We both had a feeling that we needed to come down and that we were going to be staying for longer than just one or two nights like we had originally planned to do.

I haven’t mentioned much about this on here but my husband’s grandfather who is like a grandfather to me to had been in the hospital for the past 8 weeks due to different things. To make a longer story just a bit shorter on Sunday we went to see pawpaw and we talked to him for a little while. Then Monday morning we went to see him again and we had the chance to talk to him once more, but he was not talking that much. Monday after lunch we came back and at that point is when we stayed for a couple of hours and saw him take his final breath here on earth. He had his family there with him as he took that breath and forever knows that he is loved by us. Today will be hard, but I know that he is in a better place and I will see him again one day.

Pawpaw was 92 years old and stepped up to be the grandpa that didn’t have for so long. My grandparents passed away in 2003 and 2008. While it hasn’t been a long time, my husband’s pawpaw stepped up so willingly to be the grandfather that I did not have.
There are so many memories that I have with this sweet old man in the short 8 years that I knew him, but the one that I hope he knows I am forever grateful for is this:

On my Wedding Day, pawpaw with my husbands family made the 3 hour trip to see us get married. When the wedding was finished this sweet loving man that was now officially my grandpa came by my side and told me, “Welcome to the Family.” I do not think he ever knew how much that meant to me, but I know that I loved him as my grandpa even before then.
