Monthly Archives: March 2014

That is right! My hair has always been at least shoulder length and I decided on Friday night after seeing a picture that I loved that I was going to chop my hair off! It is starting to get hotter (East Texas weather HOT) and I am going to be teaching swimming lessons soon, so I decided it was time for a change.

My hair did look like this….

ImageBut now, it looks like this…

My hair is supper thick, so I was worried about this cut and after my friend Mary finished cutting it I was then trying to figure out how to put it up in a ponytail! :0) That was quite entertaining! Overall I loved it and you could have taken the amount of hair on the floor and give it to somebody without any hair and it would have covered their head!

I have had a lot of positive responses from the cut. Let’s just hope now that I can keep up the styling portion of it! That is going to be the fun part! I have never been one to style my hair that much!

Question: Have you made a drastic change like this before to your hair? If so, what did you think about it?

St. Patricks Day 3 Miler Recap

Saturday, I ran my first 5K of the season! It was the St. Patricks Day 3 Miler and I was somewhat prepared for this race. I have been running on the treadmill and some outside (due to the weather) and then I have been lifting weights 5 days a week! I went out last Monday to run 3 miles to make sure it felt okay. Everything felt good except the side of my hip, which wasn’t to bad, just a little sore from doing jumping lunges.

Brian and I left to go spend time with his family on Friday and the race was Saturday morning. Don’t worry, I also packed all my food to bring with me for Friday and Saturday. Friday night I was able to eat my cheat meal. I ate pizza with my sister and brother-in-law and I didn’t feel horrible whenever I ate it! I think it was not too greasy and that helped.

I set out my clothes Friday night and made sure I was ready to go…

ImageFlat Kayla is ready to go!!

I made the shirt myself out of an old St. Patricks Day shirt I had. It took me a little while to figure it out, but I go it done!! This is what the back looked like…

I had to do a little bribing for Brian to come to the race, but he still came! I am very grateful that he supports me in each of my goals! The morning of the race came. I got dressed, ate my breakfast and took off for the race with Brian and Karen!

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this race because it has been so long since I did a 5K. I just wanted to go out and keep moving through the whole 5K.

We took a few pictures, got lined up for the race and then took off!

Karen did awesome! She ended up getting 1st in her age group!  Image

I strolled in at 27:36 which is a 3 minute PR for me from my last 5K.That means I was keeping around 9:00 minute pace which is unreal for me! I was not expecting that at all! I would have come in 4th in my age group, but oh well. I will probably run this race again because it is a small race and the course was very nice. We went through neighborhoods that were nice and it felt great! It was cold at first, but I warmed up very quickly!

Karen and I after the race! We were both very pleased with the race! We went into Athlete’s Corner who put the race on after the race and looked around and then headed over to Panera Bread to eat breakfast. Brian and I had already eaten, so I got a coffee and we hung out while Karen ate.

Overall, it was an amazing race that I will probably run again in the future! I loved being able to spend time with family and run as well!  I have a couple of races coming up in a few weeks that I am excited to run, and of course one of them is a mud run!

Question: Have you ran any 5K’s this season yet?

Fitness Friday

I am going to try and keep this up on Fridays as much as I can! I had a great week working out and I enjoyed not having to get up super early this week. I was on spring break and just enjoyed my time relaxing and and cleaning up things around the house!

I have been getting up early and doing my weights and fasted cardio! I have enjoyed being able to knock out both of them in the morning! Next week it will be back to the grind with getting up super early to take care of business.

Starting Tuesday I was able to get down a gallon of water and I have done that everyday since then! It is definitely hard, but I am doing it and I am seeing the benefits from it!

Now for my workouts:

Monday: leg day for me and that was torture!

Tuesday: Shoulder Day- This is the worst day for me because my right should is always very sensitive due to having tendonitis! I also went on a 7.5 mile bike ride with some friends! I love biking with friends!

Wednesday: Biceps and Back- I am so excited to be able to work on my back muscles! During the summer I am constantly using my back with swimming lessons. I also went for a 1.5 mile run with my favorite running buddy.

ImageIsn’t he just the cutest thing ever! I was so surprised that he made it that far. He came back in and was pooped out though!

Thursday: Arm Day- I worked my lower arms and other areas.

Today: I did some ploys which include lots of different kinds of squats and jumping. I am about to go foam roll the side of my booty because that is quite sore from doing some jumping lunges! I am also going to be biking for about 20 minutes and maybe a mile run! I am not wanting to do to much so that I am good for tomorrow

We also started on another project this week that I am super excited about…..

That’s right!! We finally started on our fence for our backyard! Now we can let the dogs run free in and out! Wooohoooo!

Tomorrow I am running a 5K with my sister in law from Just Me and My Running Shoes. It is my first 5K of the season and I am excited and nervous to see what I can do!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my spring break time this week and I am excited to go back to school, but still not ready! I wish I had another week! :0) I know some people are about to start their spring break, so I am excited for you!

Question: What did you do for your spring break? What are you going to do for your spring break?

Week/Workout Recap

This past week was full of so many different things happening! We got out on Friday for Spring Break, which should be in April if I had a choice. It is still cold and rainy on a lot of the days that we have off this week. ugggg! This past week we also celebrated Dr. Suess’s Birthday! I teach 2nd Grade and I do not usually do much with Dr. Suess because Kindergarten and First Grade cover so much of it, that the kids have done a lot of it already, but I surprised the students this week with a treat on Friday…

I loved that this treat tasted better (or so my kids said) then regular green eggs and ham! I was not interested in making those!

My workouts this week were all new and I have to say that I am in LOVE with my new cardio and workouts. I am switching back and forth quite a bit during my cardio and I love that because it is not the same thing! If you can not tell I am not a typical just get on the treadmill and run girl! I like to change things up quite a bit!

Here are a few pictures from my workouts this past week! I love being able to add an inspirational quote with my workouts….

ImageMy meals were packed this past week and I was ready to roll! I LOVE all my new food too! It is absolutely amazing!

I also got a bit crafty this past weekend and threw this together pretty quickly, but I love how it turned out! I found the idea on Pinterest and just went after it!

ImageThe highlight of my week though was whenever my coach put up a before and after picture of me on his athlete page! Below is the picture and the description that he wrote!

Image“Wanted to brag on a client of mine. She has only been with me for a couple of months. She was hardcore crossfit before she came to me. She ate clean and she lifted all the time. One day she decided she wanted to do something different. She was working hard and wanted to see more changes in her physique. She liked CF so she asked me to keep her workouts fun and exciting. She started seeing results immediately with just the workouts changing and now she is seeing crazy results with the nutrition and macros being where they need to be. She is such a hard worker and an inspiration not to mention a gorgeous woman. So far she has lost 4 pounds and 13 inches 4 from waist and 5 off her hips and 6 off legs to name a few. Keep it up Kayla!!! Proud of you.”

– Erik De La Rosa-

My coach is phenomenal and I could not have done this so far without him or my amazing husband supporting me! I LOVE the way that I am feeling and what I am able to do!

I have a 5K this weekend that I signed up for and I am excited to run it since it is my first 5K of the season! I went on a little practice run yesterday since I had not run outside in a very long time! I think I might have even convinced myself as well as my friend to run a half marathon with me either run the fall or spring….

ImageIt feels amazing here in SE Texas, so if you have not gone out for a run or to work out, get out there and enjoy it! It is beautiful and such a good day to be outside!

Question: A friend told me I should start a fitness page on Facebook? I am not sure what to call it though! What do you think? I need some ideas!
