A weekend to Remember :0)

This weekend was pretty crazy and like nothing I have done before! There are not many words to describe this weekend!  I won’t go into all the details, but this weekend was a good friend of mines Bachlorette Party!!! We went out of town and rented a huge beach house that was really nice. We had at one time 14 females in there and one guy! And believe it or not there was no bickering or arguing from anybody! I was so happy about that.

The Bride to Be wanted to dress up like BARBIES with tutu’s and everything! We could pick which Barbie we wanted to be and I decided to dress up as Sport/Workout Barbie! Obviously I already had everything at home for it!! YAY!!! SAVING MONEY!!

We got there Friday night and just went out to eat with all the girls! Saturday another girl and I got up and went to Crossfit for their free class! I forgot how much you sweat and in the middle of the summer too! We did a partner Wod and I got partnered with this awesome girl here! She did amazing! We split everything evenly the whole way and ended up making great time!

During the day Saturday, we just chilled at home working on our tutus and then hanging out at the beach.

The beach is not the prettiest, but we still got to hang out in the sun with some great girls! I got quite a few compliments on my wrap too that I have on. It is so comfortable and so easy to just slip on. It was black and from Academy!

Saturday night was the fun night where we dressed up as our own Barbie and got to celebrate the Beautiful Bride to Be!

Somebody else did my makeup and hair for the night! I felt so pampered! She did AMAZING on my makeup! I do not have a clue how to do eye makeup like that, but I LOVED it!

Bootcamp Barbie and Pink Tutus everywhere! All the girls got so into the Barbie they wanted to be!

Bachlorette Barbie and Workout Barbie!!

All the girls! I had a grew time with everything! We are all so different in our own unique way and we all love this Bride to Be! I am so happy for her and hope she gets everything she ever dreams of in her life!

Moonlight Madness 14 Mile Bike Ride

I was able to participate in the Moonlight Madness Bike Ride close to where I live. I grew up riding bikes, but never on the road. My dad and uncle were both bike riders and my uncle still is, but mainly on mountains. I decided to test out my skills since I knew it would be good for my training and I also knew it was a little easier on my knees than running would be for the time. This was a great race, however I was not feeling so great for this race. I know how I am when it comes to races and if I sign up for a race I am going to complete that race unless I am dying!

My friends and I found out about this bike ride and that it was 14 miles. We knew we could do that because on a normal bike ride at a leisurely pace we would go anywhere from 9-10 miles.

Bike sports

Bicycle Sports was one of the main sponsors of this race and hopefully one day I will be able to buy my own bike there!

This bike ride started at 8 or 9 pm (I think) (when it got dark) and went until you finished! It was completely escorted by cops the entire way because there were some shady parts of town that you did not want to go through by yourself. It was also a family friendly ride. There were all kinds of bikes, skaters, roller bladders and strollers out there. I was on my husbands bike, because currently that is all I have to ride that is a good bike.

We went down to the site and waited around after we got our shirts and then decided to go down to a friends house and see them! It was a couple of miles down the road and the race had not started yet.

Since this was family friendly, it was not timed at all. I enjoyed that, because it was just a nice ride with friends.

Moonlight Madness 2

These two girls are AMAZING!! They are my rock and I am grateful that I met them both! We are all involved in some kind of fitness in our life. My friend on the far right of the picture does cross fit mainly, my friend in the middle is kind of like me, she does a little bit of everything and will try a little bit of everything. Then of course me, I am all over the place when it comes to working out and getting in shape. BUT, I LOVE IT THAT WAY!!

Moonlight Madness 1

This was a great race and I am so glad that we did it! It was fun, felt great and was a good way to see what we could do without any pressure.

The next race we did was quite a bit harder than this one!

Question: Have you ever done a easy, no pressure bike race? What did you think?

Fitness Friday

This week has been crazy busy for me! I have had so much going on and then there is much more coming in the weeks to come. I am excited about all the changes that are happening that I will be sure to mention more of this week!

My fitness this week has looked like this:

Monday-Friday- Volleyball Junior High Camp- 3 hours- This consisted of playing games, passing, setting, serving, spiking and playing 6 on 6 or 3 on 3. I was the assistant coach, so I was all over the place.

Monday- Strength Training Legs and HIIT Cardio

Tuesday- Rest Day other than Volleyball Camp

Wednesday- Back and Arms Strength Training and 2 mile run.

Thursday- 3 on 3 Volleyball game (Coaches against the youngsters) Then I started off running 4 miles and then joined my friends for another 6 equaling 10 miles in all! YIKES!! I did not think I had that in me! It felt amazing, because the cool front was still in because of the rain! I felt like I could have kept running if my knees and hips didn’t start talking to me!

Friday- Rest Day- I couldn’t move my shoulders very much and they were pretty sore to the touch. I still played queen of the court though!

10 mile run

After my 10 mile run!

After my 2 mile run. It was super humid this day!

I was a soaking mess after my 10 mile run last night! I did not think I had that in me, but it was much more enjoyable with friends. I am pretty sore today in my shoulders which I think was partly volleyball’s fault, but I was also running pretty hard last night! I kept around a 10 minute pace most of the time.

I am going to maybe run 6 miles tomorrow, but I am not sure how my knees will like me if I do that. I have two half marathons that I am currently training for coming up, so I am pretty excited about those! More information to come about those!

What did you do this week to get out and moving?

Run or Dye 5K Race Recap

Run or Dye 5K Race Recap

Run or Dye 5K

I am trying to catch up on all my race recaps. I have quite a few, so just hang with me as I get through some of these! I ran the Run or Dye 5K in May and it was a blast! I ended up running with 3 teacher friends and then 2 other friends.

Before we went through the color we were all white and pretty! I love wearing the different tall socks! just a little hint, but whenever you do a color run, if you wear tall socks, then that is one less place you have to clean the color off of your legs!

This race was not far from where I live and they did a fantastic job of creating it! We all had at least 2 color packets in our hand when it was time to throw the dye! They kept throwing the dye out to us and we kept on catching it! I would do this race again if somebody wanted me too.

This race was kind of like a farewell for two of the 4 people in this picture! My friend Kate (far right) and I were both leaving the school we have taught at for 3 years and going to another school. (More on that later). While our other 2 friends(Two on the far left) will continue teaching there. We have formed such a great friendship with all the teachers that we taught with and will never forget our time there! I am sad to be leaving, but happy to start a new journey!

The race had 4 different color stations that you went through and they were taking it by the handfuls and throwing it at you. Keep in mind to always close your mouth when running through the color! This race did not feel like 3 miles to me whenever I crossed the finish line which could be a good or bad thing. I did not wear my garmin, so I am not sure how far it was, but I know it was not 3 miles exactly.

At the color run I met up with a friend of mine I had only talked to online! This was her first 5K and she did fantastic! I was so proud of her! Way to go Angela!

Overall we had a great time at the race. I am not sure if I will be doing another color run for a while! This was my 3rd one and I have done 5 in all now, so I am pretty done with color runs at this point in time. But if I see something that catches my eye, who knows what could come!

I thought I would put together a few tips if you have never ran a Color Run before, so here goes.

1. Wear white so the color will show up better.

2. Wear tall socks, so that you will not have color on that part of your leg.

3. Wear sunglasses, so that the color does not get in your eyes. It also makes for a really great picture when you take the sunglasses off.

4. When going through the color DO NOT OPEN YOUR MOUTH! I did this once, and I promise you the color does not taste good at all!

5. Last, but not least, find lots of color packets and go crazy at the after party!

Our Awesome friend Meigan made the t-shirts for us with the uniquely cool back!

You will love whatever color run you do. Have a blast and enjoy the time out there with friends! I know I do! Check out the video below for more recap of this race!

ReAlliety Challenge

A couple of months ago I was able to run the ReAlliety Challenge in Lake Charles, LA. I was able to run with my friends Mary and Chelsey! We love running mud runs and this was one that we have not had the chance to run yet!

This race is  “An annual event brought to you by Realliety Athletic Productions (R.A.P). The goal of R.A.P is to create family-focused and fitness centric events that will promote community service, wellness and entertainment within our community.”

We were nervous that this race was going to be cold because in SouthEast Texas and SouthWest Lousiania the weather is constantly changing. Our race was scheduled for 11 a.m., so we left the morning of the race and headed that way!

IMG_2002 IMG_2011IMG_2014IMG_2017

It was a little chilly whenever we got to the race, but it was not near as bad as the Savage race that we ran! We decided to wear bright colors and I ended up loving what I ran in so much! We also wore tall socks. We have realized in the different color runs and mud run that whenever you wear the tall socks that you do not have to clean mud or color off of that part of your body as much.

We started the race and the first obstacle was this tall wall that you had to figure out how to climb over (pictured above)! It was not easy, especially for a short person, but we figured it out.

I have pretty well decided that with almost all mud runs that I am just running them for fun. Each one is a challenge and difficult in it’s own way, but I love running them. I especially love running them with friends who enjoy it as much as I do!

My favorite obstacle was the monkey bars! Whenever I got to this obstacle I was not sure if I would be able to complete the race or not. There was a guy on the other side that would help us across by grabbing our feet as we held onto the bars! Whenever he asked me if I needed help I told him no, but I was very nervous at the end to swing onto the ledge! I ended up doing this on my own, but it was definitely one experience that I will not forget!

My friends were not a fan of going through the water and neither was I knowing what was probably in that water! I love swimming, but not whenever I know that gators, snakes and other creepy crawlies are in there! Yikes! Chelsey shows no fear of the water in the picture above!

We finished the race and had so much fun running it! I was not very impressed by the flag that they gave us as we crossed the finish line. The previous year they gave them a necklace of some kind, so I was kind of expecting something along those lines. For the price of the race you normally would get a little something more!

There was this really neat board that we ended up sticking our flags in after the race. I am not really sure the point of the night standing there, but I wanted to take a picture with him, so there you go! We didn’t stick around the race for very long. We ended up going back to my inlaws house, showing, changing and then going to find some food. We shopped for a little while and went down Shell Beach to look at the older homes and then ended up meeting my sister -in- law Karen at the boardwalk.

Positives about the race:

1. Great location (out in the middle of nowhere, but still pretty easy to get too).

2. Awesome obstacles

3. Had ways around the obstacles incase you didn’t want to do them or couldn’t.

4. I LOVE their shirt! It is soft and NOT WHITE!

5. Had wave times, so that was nice so it was not so crowded!

6. Great support from people in the race and at different obstacles.

Negatives about the Race:

1. NO MEDALS!! I usually sign up for a race and know if I am going to get a medal for it! For the price of this race I was expecting to be given something other than a 50 cent flag at the end.

2. Some of the obstacles had nails or boards that were loose. This is a safety concern for me only because of getting things in your bloodstream.

Overall there was not that many negatives I have for this race.

Here is a video that I made of more picture/video taken during the race! I love taking my iPhone along with me to document what we go through! It is so much fun!!
